Preparing for an RV Trip

Share

There’s nothing like taking a fun trip in your RV! Whether you’re on a family holiday or a spontaneous getaway, nothing beats the comfort and convenience of an RV vacation. But before you can set out on your journey, there are a few helpful hints for having a successful trip!

Planning Your Route

Try to prepare as much as possible ahead of time. Consider some of the basics, like planning your route and the itinerary. While it can be fun to be spontaneous, there are a lot of benefits to having a plan, especially on your first trip.

Planning out your travel plans will give you a chance to reserve a spot at a campground. Keep in mind that there is no way to guarantee a campground will have an available spot unless you book it ahead of time. Charting your route will also allow you to see which roadways you’re most comfortable driving on, whether you prefer higher-traffic interstates or wish to take more scenic routes!

Planning Your Schedule

Along with planning your route, you will also want to have an idea of what you will be doing every day. This includes making sure you have enough food and knowing where you can collect extra supplies, as well as any additional items particular to your family or travel group. Even if you don’t end up sticking to the plan, working with a more detailed schedule will prove extremely helpful!

Practicing with the RV

Take some time to practice driving and operating your RV. You will want to brush up on some basic skills, like parking, reversing, braking, and turning, as these will feel different when you’re towing or driving all the extra weight of an RV.

It’s also beneficial to run through the setup process for when you arrive at the campsite. This will cut down on the amount of time you spend trying to manage your RV and get you back to the fun activities you have planned!
